Keith Gilbertson joins University Libraries as digital technologies development librarian
Keith Gilbertson has joined the University Libraries as digital technologies librarian and assistant professor for the Digital Libraries and Archives. He will work to install, develop and maintain systems that support collections in Virginia Tech’s institutional repositories, including VTechWorks.
“Keith Gilbertson is a welcome addition to the University Libraries,” Gail McMillan, director of the Digital Library and Archives, said. “We are privileged to have the expertise he brings with him to improve VTechWorks, the university's new repository for scholarly works. He has already improved and upgraded the look, feel, and functionality of VTechWorks,” McMillan said.
Gilbertson has also worked at Georgia Tech and OhioLINK. He has experience working with DSpace, a software program for institutional repositories developed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and used by Virginia Tech. In addition to working on new projects, Gilbertson will also work with the Digital Library and Archives to migrate and preserve content from legacy systems into newer repositories, including VTechWorks.
“Digital libraries are fun, and I look forward to working on projects at Virginia Tech,” Gilbertson said. “We have an exciting and supportive work environment at the libraries and at the university, and I am pleased to be a part of it,” Gilbertson said.
Gilbertson has a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Bowling Green State University and a master’s degree in library and information science from Kent State University. He is a member of the American Library Association and the Library Information Technology Association.
