Virginia Tech families invited to celebrate fall Family Day Oct. 15
Virginia Tech welcomes families to campus for the annual Family Day celebration on Saturday, Oct. 15.
Activities and programs will be held throughout the day, including Parents as Partners Part II, a question and answer forum. Academic departments will also conduct information sessions as part of the Admissions Open House.
A highlight of the morning schedule is the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets Family Day pass in review, which will be held on the Drillfield at 10:30 a.m., and will be centered on Burruss Hall. The parade is held in honor of the visiting families and will feature the corps’ regimental band, the Highty-Tighties, as well as shots fired by Skipper, the corps’ cannon.
Virginia Tech football is also on the day’s agenda. Students and families are invited to view a broadcast of the afternoon game against Wake Forest University on wide-screen televisions at Squires Student Center. Snacks and drinks will be available during the game.
Students and visitors can pick up a schedule of events at Family Day registration from 8-10 a.m. in the Commonwealth Ballroom in Squires Student Center. Events are also posted on the Family Day website, along with a list of activities around the New River Valley.
In addition to the fall Family Day, a larger Family Weekend will be held April 20-22. Planned activities include the annual Relay for Life event Friday night, followed by the spring football game on Saturday, and the Home Sweet Home brunch at D2 dining center on Sunday. Once more information is available, it will be posted on the Family Day website.
Both Family Day events are sponsored by the Division of Student Affairs and the Virginia Tech Parents Fund.
For events in Squires Student Center, free parking is available in the Squires Lot, located at the corner of College Avenue and Otey Street, or the Shultz Hall Lot, located off Alumni Drive near the North Main Street campus entrance
