Governor Mark R. Warner recently announced appointments to several university boards of visitors, as well as the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia and the Board of Trustees for the Southern Virginia Higher Education Center.

Two were appointed to the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors: Shelley Duke of Middleburg, Va., owner and manager of Rallywood Farm, and George C. Nolen of Centreville, Va., president and chief executive officer of Siemens Corporation and 1978 graduate of the Pamplin College of Business.

“These leaders bring a vast range of experience and talent to our Commonwealth’s system of higher education, and demonstrate strong levels of dedication and service,” said Gov. Warner in a prepared statement released June 30.

A long-time friend to the Marion DuPont Scott Equine Center, Duke is chairperson of the center’s board of directors and serves the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine Advisory Council. She has been a member of the Virginia Tech Foundation Board of Directors and is a member of the Legacy Society and Ut Prosim Society.

Nolen first joined Siemens in 1982, and today leads the $16.6 billion, 65,000 employee company. Siemens is a leader in healthcare technology and information management, power generation and transmission, automation and controls, lighting, information and communications technology, transportation and building technologies.
