Cheesy Nights serves up free food and encouraging energy
Cheesy Nights volunteers served up over 6,000 grilled cheese sandwiches, snacks, fruits, drinks, and smiles during fall 2024 finals week.
Grill, cheese. Grill, cheese. Grill, cheese. Grill, cheese. Cheesy night started in December of 2011. And the first night, we made 267 sandwiches, unwrapping individual pieces of cheese with one griddle and sitting at a table next to the reference desk. And now we're doing over 6,000 with four Blackstone griddles outside and serving over 6,000 per semester. So I guess it was a good idea. Walk. It's definitely a tradition, you know, starting with a couple of hot pads on the second floor with a couple of people. And then what drew me to this was seeing the volunteers from across the university come out and grill cheese. I would say it's probably going to be a bucket list tradition to come get a grilled cheese and cheesy nights. I think it brings Virginia Tech community together in a way that is simple, but also fun. Getting to enjoy grilled cheeses together when it's cold outside. Ten out of ten. Ten on ten, this is our first cheesy night, but so far, all the volunteers make it so, like, quick and everything, and they're so nice and they're so sweet. So ten out of ten. Good luck. I know you got this. I love cheesy nights. It was amazing. This is a good stress reliever. I'm rocking with it. It's like it's like free food. I have, like, no hokey money anymore. So it's nice. It's nice. It's a great way to serve the community. And I think, you know, college students have got a lot of stress going on to them during from reading day to the end of exams, and it makes them smile, makes them happy. No easy. Being cheesy. Yes. Somebody asked me one time, why I do this, and I said, Because somebody should. Somebody should help people when you see them in need. So the reason we do it is because we should. Somebody should. So we're just we're just doing that. It should be done everywhere, in my opinion. Chee
