University Libraries' cheesiest tradition served roughly 6,000 grilled cheese sandwiches to students during the Spring 2024 finals week. Cheesy Nights is staffed by volunteers and is made possible through generous donations to the University Libraries Excellence Annual Fund.
These night. These night. Jesus. Cheesy nights is free che soon, just as students ses studying for tests during finals at the library. It really isn't prom thing. It is being in service, service to others, helping people learn, helping people grow. That's really what we're here for. As a library, we do that through information, but we do that through helping people in our community any way we can. It helps students during finals because when you're at your hardest moment, it's really nice to know that somebody cares. And I hope that it's comforting. It makes a big difference and just keeps them going. Coming in from studying for hours on end and then art. Getting met with so much like high hopes and energy. It can really turn around the rest of your day. Thank you. And it really makes it better. I think it's cool that it's just like something that the students can kind of count on during finals week, knowing that you can just get something like simple and as a nostalgic, I guess, you could say as a grilled cheese. It's also very, very nice that the whole Virgineech community, especially those who don't work at Virginia Tech come together and are able to actually care for students during a very, very stressful time in their college careers. I was going to say it's really heartwarming seeing all the people make stuff and hand this stuff out because they know how hard at a time it is for us. It's an excellent atmosphere. Everybody's really happy to be here. All the volunteers. You can tell this is a highlight of their night. I think everybody just wants to be here, be supportive and bring some happiness around finals. This is kind of a tradition now. I mean, it's gone on for 12 years. So I think especially when the pandemic was beginning to lessen wind down, we resumed doing this in December of 22. And everybody is very excited. I mean, ever since then, I've just seen more energy and more excitement around it. So I think people like to see the community gather and people want to help students. It is the best event there is on campus because there are a lot of really hungry people that have run out of time and they're really tired, and it just is wonderful when somebody else hands your food, and you could just keep on plugging in on your studies. So that's what we like to do. K nice is the best event during finals. It does. Truly is amazing for students. You can count on it, and it's delicious. I mean, what more can you ask for? You can see how many people are lined up to get it. So obviously, we love it. Te.
