Growley III, call sign Stryker, receives veterinary care through the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine. As the mascot of the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets, Stryker attends many university and community events making it important to keep track of his health.  2 to 3 times a semester, Stryker visits the Veterinary Teaching Hospital for his check up and a health certificate for travel.

We're here today to get Stryker a health certificate as well as just a check up. The purpose of those two documents is just to make sure that he is healthy and that he's able to travel outside the state. We've been extremely blessed with our relationship, especially here with Dr. Persons. Dr. Persons has looked over Stryker for the last two years and the vet school has been a great resource. Anytime I've ever needed anything, I'm able to pick up the phone and call. Everything that he does goes through here. And we've had a great relationship with them. He was in perfect health today. He comes in a couple of times a year. So basically at the end of the semester, when he's getting ready to go travel again and go stay with one of the students, then he has a physical exam to make sure he has all the preventative's he needs and he's good to go to travel. And then when he comes back at the end of summer at the beginning of the semester, we do another physical exam for him, make sure he's healthy, he looks good, and he's getting ready for his working year. He is great for morale for the students. And I think that he plays an important role in just highlighting what's wonderful about leadership in the corps. I think the collaboration is extremely important to Stryker's health, especially between getting to go to different events. Stryker loves getting out of the dorms, being outside, meeting new people. So it's definitely very imperative to his health. He's a constant and he is such a nice dog that all the students love him. They can all interact with him. They can all sort of get that stress relief by being around him too. It's great. I've been able to meet a lot of different people coming into the vet school working with Dr. Persons as well as other students. Everyone's always kind and respectful and happy to see Stryker, and I'm happy to see them too.
