The Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine is seeking submissions for its summer art show titled "Sons of the Village: The Art of Fatherhood."

Throughout history, artists have honored their fathers - their own paternity and famous fathers - in their art. The theme of this exhibition is centered on the idea that fatherhood is both a personal responsibility as well as a communal one.

We are inviting submissions from all artists, regardless of age or background. Artists are encouraged to explore the theme in their own way and to submit pieces that represent their unique perspectives on fatherhood (being one, becoming one, having one, not having one) and/or the role of the collective community in raising all its children.

Our guest curator and feature artist is retired Roanoke educator and youth mentor, Fletcher Nichols.

Show dates are June 11 through Aug. 30.

Artists are invited to submit up to three pieces of work reflecting the theme. Art can be two- or three-dimensional, and all media will be accepted. Works must be delivered to the school no later than Monday, May 20.

To submit photos of your work or ask questions about the show, contact Courtney Powell – cbrakes@vt.edu or 540-526-2588.

This art exhibit is sponsored by the Creativity in Health Education Program at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine.
