War Memorial Hall to reopen in August

Extensive renovations will enhance health and wellness offerings and academic excellence on Virginia Tech’s Blacksburg campus.

Supporting Virginia Tech’s commitment to holistic well-being and academic excellence, the renovated War Memorial Hall will house Recreational Sports; the School of Education and Center for Humanities and Philosophy faculty offices; and research and office space for the Department of Human Nutrition, Foods, and Exercise that will bring together health science with hands-on application of exercise, health, and well-being.

The reopening timeline for the capital project anticipates occupancy and public use in August 2024.

War Memorial Hall's renovations include:

  • New, refreshed, and expanded exercise and activity spaces
  • Dedicated functional fitness space
  • Mind and body studio
  • Dance studio
  • Wet classroom for aquatic and safety instruction
  • Building system upgrades, including air conditioning
  • Modernized general assignment classrooms
  • Student gathering spaces
  • Administrative offices
  • Modernized locker rooms and bathrooms with family changing rooms and all-gender spaces
