Participants are needed for a Virginia Tech Human Development and Family Science research study (IRB # 24-1349). The purpose of this research is to learn more about first and fourth graders’ literacy, math, self-regulation, and executive function skills, and how those skills are related to each other.
Participants may qualify for this research if they are parent/guardian of a child in first grade (or a rising second grader during the 2025 summer) or fourth grade (or a rising fifth grader during the 2025 summer), and are able to speak and read English. Eligible individuals will participate in one 60-minute in-person video recorded session either on the Virginia Tech Blacksburg campus, your home, your child’s school, after school, or summer program.
While your child works on activities (e.g., playing with a lego set, participating in a reading and math activities, playing games on an iPad), you will answer two surveys lasting no longer than 15 minutes.
Participants will be compensated with $20 for their time and effort upon completion of the session and survey if it takes place in the Virginia Tech Blacksburg campus or at the participant's home, or $5 if the session takes place in the child’s school, after school, or summer program.
