To answer the question, Associate Professor of Human Development Ben Katz is fusing social science with neuroscience as part of a $750,000, NIH-funded research project. Katz leads the project alongside co-PIs Tae-Ho Lee, an associate professor of psychology at Virginia Tech, and University of Tennessee researcher Il Hawn Kim. Graduate research assistants Elayna Seago and Marrium Mansoor have played an integral role in achieving Katz's portion of the project. The Virginia Tech Cognitive Aging and Translational Science Laboratory (CAATS) studies issues like how distraction, focus, and social factors affect the brain across the lifespan.
