Organizational updates to Real Estate Management, Space Management

As part of ongoing efforts to optimize administrative functions, two key organizational transitions have been implemented within the divisions of Facilities and Finance.

Real Estate Management

Effective April 10, the Office of Real Estate Management transitioned from the Division of Facilities to the Division of Finance. This shift helps synchronize the university’s real estate activities with university financial and commercial workflows and processes to better support Virginia Tech.

The team – led by Heidi Myers, executive director of real estate management – will continue to oversee critical functions, including university leasing, property acquisitions and conveyances, easements, facility use agreements, and employee housing arrangements.

Space Management

Within the Division of Facilities, to strengthen the university’s strategic approach to space utilization, the Office of Space Management was elevated as a dedicated support line within its matrixed organizational construct, effective March 10.

Will Walsh – formerly assistant director of space management – serves as interim university space official, until a national search is conducted to identify a permanent leader for this role. This transition will help ensure a more coordinated and effective management of the university’s finite space resources.
