The Global Education Office is now accepting submissions for the 2024-25 Study Abroad Photo and Video Contest. All Hokies who participated in a study abroad program through Virginia Tech between August 2024 and July 2025 are invited to enter. Through judges’ selection and popular votes, four photos and two videos will be selected to win. Student winners will receive $100 each. Faculty or staff submissions will win a nonmonetary award.

The photo and video contest is not only a contest, it is also an opportunity for participants to share their study abroad experiences with the university community. Judges will select a maximum of 24 finalists from the submissions to be displayed in a gallery in Newman Library for the 2025 fall semester.

Entries are being collected until Aug. 1. Students can enter up to three photos in each of the following categories:

  • Hokies Go Global
  • Post Cards of the World
  • Cultural Connections

Students may enter up to three videos in the video categories:

  • Moving Moments (for videos of 15 seconds or less)
  • The “Reel” Deal (For social media-style reels/edited video no longer than 45 seconds)

Faculty or staff who are program leaders or support personnel for study abroad programs are also invited to submit photos of their experiences leading or supporting a study abroad experience with Virginia Tech students. Faculty and staff will enter in the category Living Textbook.

Winners will be selected through two rounds. In the first round, submitted photos and videos will be judged by a panel of judges based on creativity/uniqueness, photographic/aesthetic quality, and how well the photo fits with the theme for which it was submitted. Photos that are chosen to advance to round two will be displayed in a gallery and the university community will be invited to choose the winners through popular vote.

All finalists will be invited to a closing reception when the winners will be announced.
