Lunch and Learn Series: What You Need to Know About Raising a Child with a Disability; March and April sessions

Virginia Tech’s Early Childhood Education Initiatives team is partnering with the Child Study Center at Virginia Tech to offer two more sessions in the lunch and learn series: "What You Need to Know About Raising a Child with a Disability."

Sessions will start at noon on March 28, and April 11, and be held via Zoom. Following is more information:

March 28: "Child Emotional Development and Strategies to Help Kids Manage Emotions," featuring:

  • Rosanna Breaux, a licensed clinical psychologist, assistant professor of psychology, and director of the Child Study Center at Virginia Tech. Her research focuses on the social, emotional, and academic functioning of children and adolescents, particularly those with ADHD.  
  • Jasmine Lewis, a doctoral candidate in the Cognitive Neuroscience and Biopsychology program in the Department of Psychology at Virginia Tech. Her research interests include the effects of trauma and stress on parent-child interactions, and the role of parenting to improve child social-emotional outcomes. 

Along with an overview of emotion development from toddlerhood through adolescence, this webinar will offer strategies you can use to support your child’s emotional wellbeing in each developmental period. Register for the March 28 session here.

April 11: "Moving from Power and Control to Collaboration and Problem-Solving. An innovative and empathetic approach to dealing with child behavior problems," also featuring Rosanna Breaux and:

  • Delshad Shroff, a doctoral candidate in the Clinical Science program in the Department of Psychology at Virginia Tech. Her research interests include examining links between parenting/parent emotion regulation and children’s emotional and behavioral functioning. She is the inaugural Ross Greene Collaborative and Proactive Solutions (CPS) Graduate Fellow within the Department of Psychology. 

This webinar will discuss why child behavior problems occur and how to collaborate proactively with your child to understand what's causing undesired behaviors using the Collaborative and Proactive Solutions approach. Register for the April 11 session here.
