Lunch and Learn Series: 'What You Need to Know About Raising a Child with a Disability'

Virginia Tech’s Early Childhood Education Initiatives team is partnering with the Child Study Center at Virginia Tech to offer a lunch and learn series: "What You Need to Know About Raising a Child with a Disability."

The series dates are Feb. 22, March 28, and April 11; all sessions will start at noon and be held via Zoom. Following is more information on the sessions.

Feb. 22: Organization, Time Management, and Planning Strategies to Get Your Child’s Homework on Track, featuring:

  • Rosanna Breaux, a licensed clinical psychologist, assistant professor of psychology, and director of the Child Study Center at Virginia Tech. Her research focuses on the social, emotional, and academic functioning of children and adolescents, particularly those with ADHD. 
  • Sam Margherio is a licensed clinical psychologist and an assistant professor in Virginia Tech’s Department of Psychology and Child Study Center. She specializes in training interventions that build youth’s skills in organization, time management, planning, and social relationships.

This webinar will cover information about the development of organization, time management, and planning skills and teach specific strategies you can implement with your child who may be struggling in these areas. Register for the Feb. 22 session here.

March 28: Child Emotional Development and Strategies to Help Kids Manage Emotions. Along with an overview of emotion development from toddlerhood through adolescence, this webinar will offer strategies you can use to support your child’s emotional wellbeing in each developmental period. April 11: Moving from Power and Control to Collaboration and Problem-Solving. An innovative and empathetic approach to dealing with child behavior problems. This webinar will discuss why child behavior problems occur and how to collaborate proactively with your child to understand what's causing undesired behaviors using the Collaborative and Proactive Solutions approach.
