The National D-Day Memorial in Bedford, Virginia is dedicating a plaque in honor of 1st Lt. Jimmie Monteith ’41, one of Virginia Tech’s eight Medal of Honor recipients, on Sunday, March 24, at 2 p.m. Monteith’s plaque will be the first addition to the National D-Day Memorial’s new Medal of Honor Garden.

The ceremony will be livestreamed

Killed in action on June 6, 1944, Monteith’s heroism was so apparent that both Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower and Gen. Omar Bradley personally recommended Monteith posthumously receive the nation’s highest honor for valor in combat.
