In addition to an evening performance at the Moss Arts Center, members of Sri Lankan Chitrasena Dance Company participated in several outreach activities, including leading two workshops in Kandyan dance -- one at Springhouse Day School in Floyd and another on-campus workshop for Virginia Tech faculty and students and other community members. The ensemble also joined Nrityagram Dance Ensemble for a free matinee performance for area students.

The Moss Arts Center offers opportunities for area students to experience the unique relationships between these disciplines through special engagement events with its visiting artists. Watch music ensemble Third Coast Percussion present their WAVES (wonder, arts, vibration, engineering, science) workshop to area students in third through sixth grades at the center. The interactive presentation introduced students to the science of sound--presenting art and music alongside science and technology.

A dancer from Lucky Plush Productions gives a group of Virginia Tech students a glimpse into the dance company’s creative process. Watch as Lucky Plush dancer Meghann Wilkinson teaches how she and her colleagues work together to create an authentic experience for audiences. Drawing on the company’s performance, “Trip the Light Fantastic: The Making of Superstrip,” Wilkinson leads participants through a series of improvisational exercises that encourages them to be more creative, live in the moment, be vulnerable, and create relationships with each other in new ways. This approach helps Lucky Plush dancers deliver an authentic performance for their audiences. The Moss Arts Center helps students discover new ways to incorporate creativity into their lives—both inside and outside the classroom.

Music education major Maggie Good participated in a master class with the Virginia Tech Chamber Singers led by Peter Phillips, director and founder of world-renowned vocal ensemble the Tallis Scholars.
