'FROGZ' creates a whimsical experience using movement, acrobatics, and unique costumes
Ingenious masks, mesmerizing movement, outlandish costumes, and an original musical score combine for “FROGZ,” a theatrical production for adults and children, on Friday, Feb. 13 at 7:30 p.m.
Presented by the Center for the Arts at Virginia Tech, the performance will be held in the Anne and Ellen Fife Theatre, located within the Moss Arts Center’s Street and Davis Performance Hall at 190 Alumni Mall.
“FROGZ” has been described as Cirque Du Soleil-evoking acrobatics mixed with Mummenschanz-like mime, set in a unique yet accessible avant-garde playground. The production features penguins playing musical chairs, a cat trapped in a giant paper bag, orbs running wild through the audience, and a madcap revue of illusion and comedy. “FROGZ” is recommended for ages 3 and older.
The performance is the signature work of Portland, Oregon-based theatre company Imago. Imago creators Carol Triffle and Jerry Mouawad are alchemists, magicians, theatrical animators, and physical comedians. Defying classification, they populate the stage with comedic amphibians, acrobatic larvae, circus boulders, and metamorphosing humans in works that tantalize the senses, the intellect, and the passions.
“FROGZ” put Imago on the international map, with two Broadway runs at the acclaimed New Victory Theatre in 2000 and 2002. It has been has been performed in China, Europe, and throughout North America and seen on stage and television by over a million people.
The Center for the Arts will also be offering a free youth matinee performance of "FROGZ" for select area elementary school students.
Tickets
Tickets are $25 for general admission and $10 for students and youth 18 years old and under. Tickets can be purchased online; at the Moss Arts Center's box office, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday; or by calling 540-231-5300.
Parking is available in the North End Parking Garage on Turner Street. Virginia Tech faculty and staff possessing a valid Virginia Tech parking permit can enter and exit the garage free of charge. Limited street parking is also available. Parking on Alumni Mall is free on weekdays after 5 p.m. and on weekends.
