Musicians from Beijing conservatory accentuate classical pieces with youthful energy
An ensemble of young musicians from one of the most prestigious music conservatories in China will present a concert of Western classical music that highlights its skill and youthful energy on Saturday, Feb. 7, at 7:30 p.m.
The performance by Central Conservatory of Music Honor Prep will be held in the Anne and Ellen Fife Theatre, located within the Moss Arts Center’s Street and Davis Performance Hall at 190 Alumni Mall. The concert is presented by the Center for the Arts at Virginia Tech.
The Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, China, trains young musicians from early ages through college level. Their graduates perform as celebrated soloists and chamber musicians, as well as in orchestras around the world. This ensemble of musicians ages 14 to 17 come to the conservatory to study from across China.
Performing in Blacksburg as part of a special tour of the United States, the ensemble will perform classical pieces from Bach, Paganini, Pablo de Sarasate, and Astor Piazzolla, among others.
Founded in 1950, the Central Conservatory of Music offers courses of all levels starting from elementary classes to postgraduate programs for master and doctoral degrees. The Conservatory has departments of composition, conducting, musicology, music education, voice and opera, piano, orchestral instruments, and traditional Chinese instruments. The Orchestra Academy was established in 2005 for training orchestral musicians and offering a postgraduate program, the first of its kind in Asia.
Tickets
Tickets are $15 for general admission and $10 for students and youth 18 years old and under. Tickets can be purchased online; at the Moss Arts Center's box office, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday; or by calling 540-231-5300.
Parking is available in the North End Parking Garage on Turner Street. Virginia Tech faculty and staff possessing a valid Virginia Tech parking permit can enter and exit the garage free of charge. Limited street parking is also available. Parking on Alumni Mall is free on weekdays after 5 p.m. and on weekends.
