Corps alumnus 1st Lt. John Long named Wake Forest game Hokie Hero
Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets alumnus 1st Lt. John Long, U.S. Army who earned a degree in history from the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences and a minor in leadership studies from the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets Rice Center for Leader Development in 2011 was the Hokie Hero for the football game versus Wake Forest University held on Saturday.
The Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets Hokie Hero program started in 2006 by IMG College, honors Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets alumni who are currently deployed. Recipients of this honor are highlighted by Bill Roth and Mike Burnop during the radio broadcast of Virginia Tech football games, on the Corps of Cadets website and in the Corps Review magazine.
Long is currently stationed at Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti, Africa, as a member of the U.S. Army 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division. He is serving as a Platoon Leader. Long is from Matthews, North Carolina, and this is his second combat deployment.
He is a Class of 2011 graduate of the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets and served as the India Company Commander during his senior year.
Long sends his love to his wife Kailyn, his family, and especially to all the other Hokies deployed around the world.
