France Belanger named R.B. Pamplin Professor of Accounting and Information Systems
France Belanger, professor of accounting and information systems in the Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Tech, was recently named the R.B. Pamplin Professor of Accounting and Information Systems by the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors.
Established in 1994, the R.B. Pamplin Professorship in Accounting and Information Systems is one of several named professorships established with part of the $10-million gift presented to the college by the Robert B. Pamplin family. The professorship supports excellence in education in accounting and information systems.
A member of the Virginia Tech community since 1997, Belanger has published 44 peer-reviewed journal publications, three books, six book chapters, 62 peer-reviewed conference proceedings, and 15 editorials and abstracts. She has received several recognitions for her published articles, including the 2008 Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Education Society Research Excellence Award for an article in IEEE Transactions on Education and the 2008 Hoeber Excellence Research Award for an article in the American Business Law Journal.
Based on her current h-index of 27, measuring the levels of citations for articles published, Belanger is among the top 120 most cited researchers in the history of the Management of Information System field.
Belanger has received more than $1 million in external research funding, including two projects funded by the National Science Foundation. She has served on numerous panels and has made numerous presentations to academic and non-academic groups.
In 2006, Belanger received an appointment as the Fulbright Distinguished Chair in Management Information Systems at the Technical University of Lisbon. In 2009, she held an appointment as the Visiting Erskine Fellow at the University of Canterbury.
Belanger has served as dissertation chair for eight Ph.D. students and is currently supervising one other Ph.D. student. She consistently receives very high teaching evaluations.
She was promoted to the rank of associate professor in 2002 and to the rank of professor in 2008. Belanger received her bachelor's degree from McGill University (Canada) and a Ph.D. from the University of South Florida.
