Virginia Tech names annual giving officer
Scott Hughes of Middleburg, Fla., has been appointed annual giving officer for Virginia Tech's Office of University Development.
Hughes' primary responsibilities in this position are to build relationships through one-on-one visits with prospects and donors in support of the university’s annual giving program and Virginia Tech's overall fundraising efforts.
"I'm excited that Scott's joined our team," said Randy Holden, Virginia Tech's director of annual giving. "His passion for helping his alma mater, and his ability to motivate others, should help us continue to grow our strong base of dedicated donors."
Hughes said the opportunity to meet frequently with people who share his appreciation for Virginia Tech was highly attractive.
"As an alumnus, I understand what an extraordinary institution this is," he said, "and it will be exciting to share that perspective widely."
Hughes formerly served as high-school-outreach coordinator at Fortis College in Orange Park, Fla. His duties in that position included recruiting applicants and giving motivational presentations to more than 100 high-school classrooms per year.
Hughes' career history also includes working at Equity Residential in Jacksonville, Fla., and as a coach for the football teams at Glenville State College in Glenville, W.Va., and Jacksonville University in Jacksonville, Fla.
Hughes earned his bachelor's degree in communication from Virginia Tech, where he was a four-year walk on for the university's football team. He is currently pursuing a master's degree in business administration from Tiffin University.
