One year later: Remembering the life of Officer Deriek Crouse
The following is an open letter to the Virginia Tech community from university President Charles W. Steger.
Dear colleagues,
A memorial service to commemorate the sacrifice of fallen Virginia Tech Police Officer Deriek W. Crouse will be held on Saturday, Dec. 8, beginning at noon in the Coliseum Lot. I encourage you to attend.
Officer Crouse joined the Virginia Tech Police Department on Oct. 27, 2007, and served in our patrol division. As you may know, Officer Crouse was murdered, in the line of duty on Dec. 8, 2011.
This recognition service for Officer Crouse will include remarks by Chief Wendell Flinchum, Delegate Joseph Yost, Officer Kendrah Cline, and Rev. Tommy McDearis as well as the dedication of a permanent memorial for Officer Crouse. It is most fitting the memorial will be made of Hokie Stone – stone representing our loyalty to one another and to our Hokie Nation.
We continue to extend our deepest condolences and support to Officer Crouse’s family and to his colleagues in our police department.
Sincerely,
Charles W. Steger
President
