Dr. Michele Borgarelli joins veterinary college as associate professor of cardiology
Dr. Michele Borgarelli has joined the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech as an associate professor of cardiology in the Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences.
Borgarelli was previously an associate professor of cardiology at the Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Prior to that, he was an assistant professor of cardiology and internal medicine at the University of Torino, Italy. He also worked as a cardiology and internal medicine consultant at a veterinary clinic in Italy. Borgarelli began his new position at the college on June 15.
“Dr. Borgarelli brings more than 20 years of cardiology experience to the veterinary college,” said Dr. Greg Daniel, head of the Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences. “He is a recognized expert in cardiology in both the United States and Europe. His research background in mitral valve disease and his interest in regenerative medicine will advance the college’s service and research efforts in this important specialty.”
In his new role, Borgarelli will provide cardiology services to small animal patients at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital and pursue his research interests, which also include pathophysiology and treatment of chronic heart failure.
After earning a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Torino, Borgarelli returned to his alma mater to complete a doctorate in clinical veterinary sciences. He is board certified in companion animal cardiology by the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine.
