Chalk Talks offer inside look at the world of Virginia Tech men's basketball
Chalk Talks at D2 dining center, which offer students the chance to learn about Virginia Tech basketball straight from the source, has returned for a third year.
The series, which runs through the spring semester, will give students the opportunity to interact with Men’s Basketball Head Coach Seth Greenberg and various guest coaches to learn more about their players and strategies, as well as upcoming games.
Following each event, those in attendance can talk one on one with the coaches, get autographs and photos, and enter to win prizes such as tickets to future games or chances to meet the basketball team.
The sessions are free and open to the general public, although normal D2 lunch fees will apply — $3.15 with a Flex Plan, and $9.45 with cash. D2 accepts payment in the form of Virginia Tech dining plans, Dining Dollars, Hokie Passport Account, and cash.
Seating is limited, so those interested in attending should arrive early.
Brent DiGiacomo, the university’s director of sports marketing and promotions, said the event has become popular with basketball fans looking to get more involved with the game.
“The Chalk Talks, which have experienced tremendous success during the season and post-season, are provided to give students insight into the inner workings of the men's basketball program,” he said. “Coach Greenberg leads a fun and informative session that highlights the team's preparations for each game.”
Each session begins at noon in the seating area of D2 with a presentation by a guest coach, who will be announced prior to the event. At 12:30 p.m. Greenberg will discuss Virginia Tech men’s basketball before opening the floor to questions.
“It’s a great collaboration between us and athletics. It gives them a nice format to get in here and have some fun with the students and create excitement while gaining in-depth analysis of the game plan,” said Kelvin Bergsten, assistant director of Dietrich Dining Hall. “Coach Greenberg is a very engaging person, and students say one of the things they like most about D2 is the Chalk Talks series.”
