Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets to kickoff University Open House with parade
Skipper, the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets cannon, will fire to usher in the regimental formal review to kickoff the University Open House. The first shot will be at approximately 9:50 a.m., on Saturday, Nov. 12 as the cadets march onto the Drillfield.
By 10 a.m., the Corps of Cadets will be centered on the War Memorial Chapel where University President Charles W. Steger will be a member of the reviewing party. The Commandant of Cadets, retired Maj. Gen. Randal Fullhart, U.S. Air Force, will speak.
In addition, the regimental band the Highty-Tighties will play, and Skipper will be fired twice more, at the first note of the National Anthem and the first note of “Tech Triumph.” The last of the three shots will be at about 10:40 a.m.
Following the parade, the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets museum, located on the first floor of Rasche Hall, will be open for tours from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Free parking is available around the Drillfield and no pass is necessary on the weekends. Parking also is available in the Perry Street lots and the Perry Street Parking Garage near Prices Fork Road. Find more parking information online or call 540-231-3200.
The Corps of Cadets welcomes everyone to attend the parade and experience the proud tradition that has been part of the campus since its founding in 1872.
Friday, Nov. 11, also is a busy day for the Corps of Cadets as it participates in numerous events celebrating Veterans Day. The annual Veterans Day remembrance ceremony will be held at 10:30 a.m. in the War Memorial Chapel. At 4:45 p.m., the cadets will hold a formal retreat ceremony at the flag pole on Upper Quad. All are invited to join the corps in remembering those who have served in our nation’s military.
