To strengthen ties between fraternity and sorority organizations and the local community, Virginia Tech’s Fraternity and Sorority Life hosted Greeks Giving Back, a day when the Greek community works together with the Town of Blacksburg to clean up the downtown area and surrounding neighborhoods.

For the second annual Greeks Giving Back community service event on Oct. 2, more than 800 Greek students helped local businesses and individual homeowners with more than 200 projects. Tasks ranged from cleaning the streets of Blacksburg to the remediation of graffiti.

The main goal of this Fraternity and Sorority Life event is to promote a positive relationship between Greek organizations and the Town of Blacksburg. By concentrating on helping the community, this event brings the focus of Greek life back to its core value of service.

Greeks Giving Back brings all recognized Greek-letter organizations together to promote unity within the Virginia Tech community and the Town of Blacksburg. It is run by Greek students, for Greek students, and has become one of the largest all-Greek service events in Virginia.
