University welcomes parents, families to campus for Family Day Oct. 30
Virginia Tech welcomes the families of Virginia Tech students to campus for the annual Family Day celebration, sponsored by the Division of Student Affairs.
Activities and programs will be held throughout the weekend of Oct. 29-31 by colleges, departments, athletic organizations, and student groups, giving families the chance to learn more about student life at Virginia Tech.
The Family Day welcome desk on the first floor of Squires Student Center will offer event schedules, maps, brochures, and Family Day favors for families visiting for the weekend events.
University President Charles W. Steger will host the Family Day Welcome, 9-10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 30 in the Commonwealth Ballroom of Squires Student Center. The program will include a special recognition of the 2010 Virginia Tech Parent of the Year.
From 11 a.m. to noon on Saturday, the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets will present a formal pass-in-review parade in honor of visiting families and guests of Virginia Tech.
On Friday, Oct. 29, 5-7 p.m. at D2 dining center in Dietrick Hall, Dining Services will present the Home Sweet Home dinner, featuring the winning recipes submitted by family members for the Home Sweet Home Recipe Contest. The price will be $3.75 for students with Flex dining plans, and $11.25 for Dining Dollars, Hokie Passport, and cash customers.

For events in Squires Student Center, free parking is available in the Squires Lot, located at the corner of College Avenue and Otey Street, or the Shultz Hall Lot, located off Alumni Drive near the North Main Street campus entrance
Free parking is available around the Drillfield with a visitor’s pass from 5-8 p.m. No pass is necessary on the Drillfield after 8 p.m. or on weekends. Parking is also available in Perry Street Lot 1, 3, 4 and 6 near Prices Fork Road.
For Dietrick Dining Center, with a visitor’s pass, parking is available in the Coliseum Lot, Engel Lot, and the Ag Quad Lot. A visitor’s pass may be obtained Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Visitor’s Information Center, located on Southgate Drive. After 5 p.m., free parking is available in the Coliseum Lot, Engel Lot (after 5:30 p.m.), and the Ag Quad Lot. Find more parking information online or call (540) 231-3200.
