A message from President Tim Sands at the start of the spring 2025 semester

To the university community,
Welcome to an exciting new year for Virginia Tech! I hope you had a restful winter break and are keeping warm during this chilly start to our spring semester.
2025 begins on a high note with the completion of one of our highly anticipated projects, Academic Building One in Alexandria. Our graduate students can now enjoy this epicenter for project-based learning in computer science and engineering, and the university community has a new connection to policymakers, partners, and alumni in the greater Washington, D.C., metro area.
I look forward to the grand opening ceremony and ribbon-cutting next month as we celebrate another milestone in our decade-long effort to elevate Virginia Tech’s impact and advance as a global research institution.
I will have more to say about this exciting new chapter for the university, and our vision for a Virginia Tech “innovation network,” in my 2025 State of the University Address at the Moss Arts Center on Wednesday, Feb. 5, at 3 p.m.
Our Partnership for Progress initiative, which is exploring collaborative opportunities with the communities around our Blacksburg campus, takes another step forward with the launch of a new website and a community survey. I encourage our New River Valley Hokies to participate in the survey to help us better understand our region’s quality-of-life needs.
Have a great spring semester, and let’s go Hokies!
Tim Sands,
President
