Mahmood Khan honored with first Brahim's Chair at Universiti Putra Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur
Mahmood Khan, professor, Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management, Pamplin College of Business, National Capital Region, received the first Brahim's Chair in Foodservice and Hospitality Management from the Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Kuala Lumpur, during a recent banquet and ceremony.
Minister of Higher Education Dato Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin formally honored Khan with the professorship chair presented to UPM by Brahim's Corporation, an international food company headquartered in Malaysia. Among the guests were other members of the academic community, including UPM Vice Chancellor Prof Tan Sri Datuk Dr Nik Mustapha Raja Abdullah and UPM Deputy Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation Prof Dato Dr Abu Bakar Salleh. Representing Brahim's were Executive Chairman and CEO of Dewina Holdings Datuk Ibrahim Haji Ahmad Badawi, who acknowledged Khan's credentials, and Fatin Ibrahim, executive director of Dewina.
UPM specializes in various disciplines including agriculture, business, engineering, and medicine. The university invited Khan to review its programs in food science and technology and he subsequently recommended that UPM establish a food service program. The newly-created Management and Food Service Department includes special state-of-the art foodservice laboratories and a cafeteria, as well as food services at the university stadium.
During his most recent trip to Malaysia, Khan gave two keynote addresses open to the public and organized a hospitality and tourism workshop for faculty.
Brahim's Corporation manufactures food products and provides catering services both nationally and internationally. It caters to military operations in Malaysia as well as United Nations Forces. In retail food services, it has a joint venture with Host Marriott Corporation, and operates several franchised and non-franchised outlets and cafeterias. In addition, Brahim's offers inflight catering in collaboration with Lufthansa Airlines and SkyChefs Corporation. Brahmin's also owns Dewina Food Industries, a household name in Malaysia, providing a wide array of Asian spices and sauces.
