Cartwright named supplier diversity manager
Mark S. Cartwright of Blacksburg, former manager of back office servicing at GMAC Bank, has been named supplier diversity manager at Virginia Tech.
In his new position, Cartwright will provide leadership for a comprehensive program to improve the availability of small, woman-owned and minority-owned vendors to the university community. He will work closely with the director of materials management and the professional buying staff of the university to identify small, woman-owned and minority-owned supplier resources so that maximum opportunity for participation in the competitive procurement process will be achieved.
Cartwright will also be responsible for representing the university at educational outreach events, meeting with state officials and other representatives of higher education, and also serve as a dedicated resource for small, woman-owned and minority-owned suppliers seeking to do business with the university.
Having joined GMAC Bank shortly after its inception in 2001, Cartwright initially oversaw customer service and call center operations as the bank grew to $14 billion in assets over a five year period. His more recent responsibilities included building a back office servicing team to accommodate the rapid growth of the bank. He was also heavily involved in community outreach initiatives. Prior to joining GMAC Bank, Cartwright held management positions with BB&T and Bank of America.
Cartwright serves on the Pamplin MBA Advisory Board and received his bachelor’s degree and a Master of Business Administration degree from Virginia Tech.
