Celebrating the university’s curiosity, creativity, and innovation, the Moss Arts Center’s latest exhibition showcases new works from faculty members in Virginia Tech’s School of Visual Arts.

Assembly,” the school’s 2025 faculty triennial exhibition, opens with a reception on Thursday, April 10, from 4-6 p.m. in the center’s Grand Lobby, located at 190 Alumni Mall. The event is free and open to the public.

Michael Borowski's work, "Swimming Hole 2: Dismal Falls," 2023 Dye sublimination print on aluminum 24 x 24 inches. This black and white photograph of a natural waterfall surrounded by dense trees. The waterfall cascades over layered rock formations into a calm, shallow river. In the foreground, a person sits partially submerged in the water, while two others stand atop the rocky ledge above the waterfall. One of them appears to be preparing to jump, while the other stands nearby. The scene is framed by overhanging branches and foliage, creating a serene and timeless atmosphere.

Featured in the Ruth C. Horton Gallery, Miles C. Horton Jr. Gallery, and Sherwood Payne Quillen ’71 Reception Gallery, the exhibition spans a wide variety of subject matter, scale, and media — from traditional to digital as well as sculpture, video, drawing, and painting. These works and installations explore and expand upon both time-honored and cutting-edge approaches to artmaking, highlighting the ingenuity and skill of the university’s faculty.

On view until Saturday, April 26, the exhibition includes works by Betsy Bannan, Sam Blanchard, Michael Borowski, Dongsoo Choi, Meaghan Dee, Dustin Dennis, Meredith Drum, Les Duffield, Jennifer L. Hand, Travis Head, Wonjung Jung, Amanda Kelly, Nate King, Amanda Lechner, Alexandra Leonetti, Mitch Miller, Hiromi Okumura, Amelia Salisbury, Robin Scully, Eric Standley, Chelsea Thompto, Thomas Tucker, Rachel Lin Weaver, and Shuang Wu.

Betsy Bannan's work, "Structural Mannerism," 2023, Oil on canvas, 36 x 36 inches. This is an abstract painting with geometric and organic shapes layered in a complex composition. The artwork features overlapping arcs, rectangles, and freeform shapes in shades of blue, green, beige, and burgundy. Some elements have a structural or architectural quality, while others are more fluid and painterly. There are visible brushstrokes, blended textures, and intersecting lines that add depth and movement to the piece.
