Junior Alex Ashley, a midfielder for Virginia Tech Men’s Lacrosse Club, was named Division I Warrior Player of the Week by the Men's Collegiate Lacrosse Association for his outstanding performance for the week ending Feb. 9.

The association honored Ashley with the distinction after he helped lead the Hokies to victory against the Liberty Flames, a 2024 national semifinalist, on Feb. 8. It credited him with helping Virginia Tech score 16 goals — “the third-most goals the Flames have given up in the past three years.”

For the game, Ashley scored six goals and assisted on another in Virginia Tech’s 16-12 victory.

Ashley said he was honored by the recognition.

“Only one person gets it each week, and to win it, especially in a rivalry game against Liberty, means a lot,” he said. “My teammates were a big part of the reason I was able to put up the stats that I did, and I’m just glad that we were able to get the win.”

Virginia Tech Men’s Lacrosse Club, founded in 1948, is one of the university’s oldest sport clubs. All skill levels are welcome to try out for the club. To learn more, visit the Virginia Tech Men’s Lacrosse Club website.
