Patricia Wooten has been hired as division director of human resources for the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences

In her new role, Wooten will oversee a team of HR professionals and provide strategic HR leadership to both the academic and extension divisions.

“Patricia brings a wealth of knowledge and talent to her new role,” said Bryan Garey, vice president for human resources. “Her extensive experience and deep regard for Virginia Tech and its values make her an ideal choice as division director for the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.”

Wooten has nearly 20 years of HR experience in leadership and organizational development, talent acquisition, retention strategies, and employee engagement tactics in both the private sector and higher education.

Her career with Virginia Tech began in 2019 as HR manager for the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine. In 2021, she was hired into the HR division director role for Advancement and served in this role for approximately four years.

In her new role, Wooten will report to both Curtis Mabry, assistant vice president of consulting and strategic services in the Division of Human Resources, and Mario Ferruzzi, dean for the college.

“Patricia’s comprehensive experience in human resources and knowledge of Virginia Tech will be great assets to the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences,” said Ferruzzi. “I look forward to working with her as she takes on this new role.”

Prior to Virginia Tech, Wooten served as senior manager at People Operations Business Partner in Richmond. Earlier, she served as vice president for human resources at both the LewisGale Montgomery Hospital and Henrico Doctors Hospital system in Richmond.
