Spencer Hall, retired assistant vice president of facilities, passed away on Jan. 31.

Hall was born to Frederick “Fred” Hall and Wynona Wall Hall on Jan. 29, 1941.

He later earned bachelor’s and master's degrees in civil engineering at Georgia Tech before leading a career as a decorated Naval officer. He served for 21 years in duty stations around the United States, retiring at the rank of commander.

Following his retirement from the Navy, Hall served as assistant vice president of facilities at Virginia Tech for several years.

Hall enjoyed spending time with his family at the beach, cheering on Navy football, pursuing artistic ventures, and sharing time with his “coffee group.”

Hall is survived by his wife, Kathy Lester Hall; his daughter, Terry Rae Bodine, and her husband, Bill; his son Rick Hall; his son Andrew Hall and his wife, Darien; and his son Ryan Hall.
