Marissa Vincent

Degree: DVM, 2025, Mixed Animal
Hometown: Columbia, Maryland

My undergraduate was in…
Biology and Spanish with minors in International Studies and Chemistry.

Best part of being a VMCVM student…
Working with animals you might not come in contact with otherwise and spending time with people who share your interests.

The moment I knew I wanted to be a veterinarian/public health professional was…
What once was a childhood fear of dogs turned into an interest in understanding animals more and I've wanted to work with them ever since.

My hidden talent...
I played Division I soccer and now occasionally play for fun with my sister and past teammates.

A person who has inspired me...
My sister and the way she's started a successful career while being a resource in and advocating for her community. Also my grandmother who introduced us to giving back to our community at an early age.

Biggest misconception about being a veterinarian/public health student…
We all grew up with animals and had years of private practice experience prior to entering veterinary school — there are so many ways to break into veterinary medicine and we all come from varying backgrounds.

If I had a superpower, it would be...
To be able to read my cat's mind.

My no-fail, go-for-it motivational song...
"The Night is Still Young" by Nicki Minaj

The course project/study you're most excited about...
I enjoy hands-on opportunities the most, so my cow and horse labs this semester! I'm also excited to gain more small ruminant experience during our clinical year.

What excites me the most about the future of my industry...
We are growing and hopefully getting closer to filling the needs in our communities. I'm really excited to feel like an active member of my community and increase access to veterinary care.

Favorite way to end the day...
Light a candle and relax with my cat and the mountain view.

Top of my bucket list...
Enjoy life.

How many pets/animals live at home? Can you tell us about them?
I adopted my cat Lily last summer, she's a 6-year-old tuxedo that loves to headbutt and chase her tail.
