Kevin Pelzer, professor of animal science in the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech, has been conferred the title of professor emeritus by the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors.

The emeritus title may be conferred on retired faculty members who are specially recommended to the board by Virginia Tech President Tim Sands in recognition of exemplary service to the university. Nominated individuals who are approved by the board receive a copy of the resolution and a certificate of appreciation.

A member of the Virginia Tech community for more than 36 years, Pelzer made significant research contributions to the health and welfare of animals through his work in the Production Management Medicine clinical service of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital. In addition, he served the community as an educator of the lay public and farm animal producers, supporting the service, research, and teaching missions of the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine.

In the classroom, Pelzer taught veterinary students, placing strong emphasis on standards and student learning. He provided many years of distinguished contributions to the department, college, and university through dedicated service on numerous committees.

Pelzer received his bachelor's degree from the University of Kentucky and his master’s degree from the University of California, Davis. He obtained his veterinary degree from Tuskegee University.
