VMCVM Faculty Spotlight: Fawzy Elnady
Fawzy Elnady
Associate Professor of Anatomy and Embryology
When did you join the veterinary college?
I joined VMCVM as a Ph.D. student in 1996 and as associate professor in 2019.
The best part of being a faculty is?
Teaching and simplifying complex foundational concepts for students, and watching them grow like seeds you've planted, brings joy as they blossom into knowledgeable and skilled veterinarians.
Best advice I've gotten...
Strive to excel in everything you do to the best of your ability.
How would you capture the essence of your work in a newspaper headline?
Innovative veterinary education and training using Elnady-Plastinated models
My hidden talent...
Good Arabic handwriting.
A person who has inspired me...
My wife, Asmaa Elkordy, a veterinarian, always supports and inspires me in both my work and life.
Words of encouragement to a current veterinary college student...
No pain, no gain. Remember, the effort and challenges you face now will pay off shortly, and mastering the basics is crucial for your future career.
One misconception that all students seem to have is?
Some students get the misconception that a cat is a small dog and a goat is a small cow. No, they are anatomically different!
If I had a superpower, it would be...
Animal mercy and welfare.
This excites me the most about the future of my industry...
The shortage of qualified veterinary anatomists requires greater attention. Despite the availability of various teaching methods and technologies, there is still a need for hands-on, one-on-one dissection and instruction to fully grasp veterinary anatomy.
A cause I'm most passionate about...
I am deeply passionate about teaching and constantly seek innovative methods to help students retain and memorize information for the long term.
Favorite way to end the day...
My favorite way to end the day is reading or praying at night.
Top of my bucket list...
At the top of my bucket list is to visit Makkah and perform the pilgrimage.
My favorite quote...
Anatomy reveals the inside beauty of the human and animal bodies.
How many pets/animals live at home? Can you tell us about them?
We have two cats, Tama and Yarni, both of whom are American Shorthairs. Tama is blackish-grey and very smart, while Yarni is ginger and has a completely different, often amusing personality. I sometimes feel that she’s abnormally funny. We truly enjoy their company, especially at night when Tama often spends time with me.
Anything else to add?
I love teaching anatomy and dissection and developing
