VMCVM Staff Spotlight: Samara Moore
Samara Moore
Radiologic Technologist, Veterinary Teaching Hospital
When did you join the veterinary college?
I started in September of 2022. My entire career before this had been in human medicine, so this was a massive change.
What is your role at the veterinary college?
I work in the Radiology Department as one of the technologists. I run CT and MRI scans, take small and large animal X-rays, and operate the C-arm--in addition to teaching the students.
The best part of being at VMCVM...
I genuinely enjoy teaching and talking with the students. The cute patients don't hurt either!
Best advice I've gotten...
Be the person that your child self wanted and needed. Be that person for yourself, and for others.
My hidden talent...
It's not hidden, but my biggest hobby besides gaming is crochet. I just finished making a 3-foot-long octopus!
A person who has inspired me...
In general, people who are not afraid to be their true, authentic selves.
Can you share a memorable experience or story from your time working with animals?
One of my most memorable experiences is getting to scan a capybara; they're one of my favorite animals!
What do you find most inspiring or fulfilling about working with students and helping them pursue their careers?
I am neurodivergent, and remember how difficult it was to be trying my best in school and still "miss the mark" because other people didn't understand my communication style. I want to be a "safe person" to other people like me that may comprehend or approach things in a different way than most.
One misconception that all students seem to have is?
That you can just take one single image of the entire patient and it will be diagnostic! Each anatomical area requires different technique and positioning to be truly diagnostic.
A cause I'm most passionate about...
Breaking down mental health stigma.
Favorite way to end the day...
Knowing I don't have an alarm set for the next day!
Top of my bucket list...
Becoming a crochet pattern designer, and maybe one day being able to do it full time.
