Virginia Tech employees recognized for their military service
Each year, Virginia Tech recognizes employees who served their country as members of the military. Approximately 342 employees who self-identify as military veterans will receive a gift of appreciation this year.
Each veteran will receive an invitation to the university’s Veterans Day events along with a Virginia Tech insulated tumbler gift, hand delivered by members of the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets.
“This ongoing partnership with the Corps of Cadets has been going strong for many years,” said Bryan Garey, vice president for human resources. “We are happy to facilitate a positive interaction between our cadet students and employees to honor and recognize them as veterans. Thank you, Hokies, for your service to our country.”
"As a nation, we cannot underestimate the sacrifices our veterans make each year to serve our country. While we take this one day to thank them, I hope the sentiment of Veterans Day carries through to every day they serve and sacrifice on our behalf," said interim Commandant of Cadets Brig. Gen. Dwayne R. Edwards.
The Veterans Day remembrance ceremony will begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 11, in the War Memorial Chapel at 601 Drillfield Drive. Beginning at 11 a.m., the memorial wreath will be placed in front of the cenotaph on War Memorial Court.
