Cadets and veterans highlighted the colors at the Rutgers game
First-year Cadets Katelin Lock, Dillon Albor, and Jackson Anderson received the flags at Saturday’s Military Appreciation football game against Rutgers. Also included in the flag ceremony were three veterans selected by Virginia Tech's Office Veteran Services.
The passing of the flags during the pre-game ceremonies was a continuation of the proud partnership between the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets and Virginia Tech football to highlight the colors at every football game.
Three football players, chosen because of their performance in the last game or at practice, carried the American flag, the state flag, and the team’s spirit flag and led the team onto the field. They delivered the flags to cadets at the south end of the field.
The cadets, also selected based on their performance in the corps, rendered honors to the flags and carried them off the field. For home games, three first-year cadets are selected, and one or two upper-class cadets travel with the team and receive the flags at away games.
Lock, from Fayetteville, North Carolina, is in Army ROTC and majoring in architecture in the College of Architecture, Arts, and Design. While constantly pursuing her own continued growth as a cadet in November Company, she is dedicated to her fellow classmates and makes time to ensure their successes.
Albor is in Army ROTC and is majoring in general engineering in the College of Engineering. From Chesapeake, his proficiency as a clarinet player in the Highty-Tighties, the regimental band of the Corps of Cadets, has grown exponentially in his short time at Virginia Tech. Albor is also known for his attention to detail and excellent uniform appearance.
Anderson, also from Cheasapeake, is in Air Force ROTC and is majoring in university studies. Known as an overall great performer in Oscar Company, he exudes discipline and has remained resilient throughout his first-year cadet training.
Virginia Tech’s Office of Veterans Services selected two student veterans and a Virginia Tech veteran alumnus to participate in the flag ceremony. Kehau Watson served with the U.S. Army and U.S. Army Reserve from 2013-2019 and is a civil engineering major in the College of Engineering. Nikita Romanov is a general engineering major in the College of Engineering who served in the U.S. Navy from 2020-2022. Seth Bagbey, Class of 2024, received his degree in wildlife conservation from the College of Natural Resources and Environment and served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 2017-2021.
