First-year cadets Anna Redman, Luke Hunter, and Lucas Quatrara received the flags at Saturday’s football game against Marshall.

The passing of the flags during the pre-game ceremonies was a continuation of the proud partnership between the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets and Virginia Tech football to highlight the colors at every football game.

Three football players, chosen because of their performance in the last game or at practice, carried the American flag, the state flag, and the team’s spirit flag and led the team onto the field. They delivered the flags to cadets at the south end of the field.

The cadets, also selected based on their performance in the corps, rendered honors to the flags and carried them off the field. For home games, three first-year cadets are selected, and one or two upper-class cadets travel with the team and receive the flags at away games.

Redman, from St. Mary’s County, Maryland, is in Navy ROTC and majoring in general engineering in the College of Engineering. Always setting the example among her peers, she is eager to help her classmates. Redman was one of the best performing new cadets in her battalion during New Cadet Week and is a positive force within her company.

Hunter is in the corps’ Citizen-Leader Track and is majoring in landscape design and turfgrass science in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. From Fairfax, he was chosen for his motivation and high performance as a first-year cadet. His eagerness to master new skills is evident and infectious. Notably, Hunter is also a lance corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve.

Quatrara, from Charlottesville, is also a member of the corps’ Citizen-Leader Track and is majoring in management in the Pamplin College of Business. A proven high-stress performer, he is known for his attention to detail and enthusiasm in helping his fellow first-year cadets. He is diligent in his cadet studies and scored a nearly perfect score on the new cadet knowledge test during New Cadet Week.
