#BackToSchool season is finally here, which means now is the perfect time for parents and guardians to think about their child’s online safety! Kids are spending more time online than ever before, and parents should pay attention to what information is collected, where it is stored, and how it is shared.

At the end of July 2024, the Senate passed two bills that tackle the issue of how minors interact with the internet. These bills focus on the responsibility of tech companies to protect children from the harms of social media. The KOSA (Kids Online Safety Act) and COPPA (Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act) 2.0 bills are the first legislative steps toward safer social media protocol for minors in some time.
