For the third year in a row, WVTF Radio IQ has been recognized for “Overall Excellence” for its local news reporting. The Edward R. Murrow Award was given by the Radio Television Digital News Association.

WVTF Radio IQ won nine out of 13 awards, more than any other station in Region 12, which comprises Maryland, Virginia, Delaware, and Washington, D.C. The regional winners are now considered for the National Edward R. Murrow awards, which will be announced in August.

The station was also recently recognized by the Public Media Journalists Association, winning first place in both the Documentary and Enterprise categories.

“WVTF Radio IQ is committed to delivering high quality journalism to our listeners and readers,” said station manager Roger Duvall. “Now, more than ever, it’s important that citizens have a free, factual source of news and information that helps them make decisions about their elected leaders and communities."

Earlier this spring, WVTF Radio IQ won several Virginias Associated Press Broadcasters awards, winning “Outstanding News Operation” for stations across Virginia and West Virginia.

News Director David Seidel was honored with The Associated Press Robert Gallimore Distinguished Service Award. Seidel started his career in television at WDBJ and WHSV before joining Radio IQ in 2015. "I'm still a bit in shock," Seidel said. "So many of the previous recipients are people who taught me, worked with me, encouraged me along the way. It's really quite surreal to now be included on that list. And I appreciate the kind words from those who nominated me.”

In addition to Seidel’s award, WVTF Radio IQ news magazine hosts swept the news anchor category, with Jeff Bossert winning first place and Craig Wright securing second place.
