Anatomical Pathology Technician, Necropsy Laboratory

When did you join the veterinary college?
2017

What is your role at the veterinary college?
Anatomical Pathology Technician

The best part of being at VMCVM...
I work with a marvelous group of anatomical pathologists, that have such a passion for their profession! I know that no matter what happens they have my back. They are constantly teaching me new things and including me. My co-workers in ViTALS are also pretty incredible too, we all have a wonderful relationship and know we can depend on each other.

Best advice I've gotten...
Never give up on your dreams no matter how old you are! You can accomplish anything with the right people and support in your life.

How would you capture the essence of your work in a newspaper headline?
Gross, it's what we do best! How necropsy helps save the lives of other animals by learning from the ones who have crossed the rainbow bridge.

My hidden talent...
Being a supermom!

A person who has inspired me...
My youngest daughter. She was born full term, but spent 62 days in the NICU fighting for her life. She showed me what true faith and perseverance is. She taught me how to fight for your loved ones and to follow your mom instinct.

What do you find most inspiring or fulfilling about working with students and helping them pursue their careers?
Seeing the excitement they have when they put all the years of school to use and are able to answer questions/diagnose animals.

One misconception that all students seem to have is?
That necropsy is just cutting up deceased animals, but it is actually getting the ability to see the entire body with the organs inside and honing in on surgical skills that you don't get doing routine surgeries.

If I had a superpower, it would be...
Healing power, I would love to see everyone happy and healthy!

If you could magically grant an animal the ability to talk, which one would you choose and what do you think it would say?
My dog Stella, she is so loved and absolutely spoiled, I think she would talk about how much she enjoys the farm, kids, and all the adventures she has in a day.

A cause I am passionate about...
Animal cruelty, we have to be the voice for those that don't have a voice.

Favorite way to end the day...
Going home to my husband, 3 kids, and farm.

Top of my bucket list...
To see Ireland.

My favorite quote...
"It turns out sometimes you have to do the wrong thing. Sometimes you have to make a big mistake to figure out how to make things right. Mistakes are painful, but they're the only way to find out who we really are." -Denny Duquette

If you could communicate with animals for a day, what would you ask them?
How can you be so loyal to someone no matter what their attitude is?

How many pets/animals live at home? Can you tell us about them?
We have 6 dogs (Stella-Chi mix, Murphy-Chi mix, Birdee-border collie, Cora-karakachan, Cricket-blue heeler, Goldie-terrier mix), 3 cats (Peanut, Butters, Parfait), mule (Jasper), 7 goats (2 of which are big pets, Penny and Chocolate Milk), several cattle and chickens, and ~100 sheep.
