On March 30, 2024, the Virginia Tech Police Department (VTPD) was notified by a university partner that a threat of violence against Virginia Tech had been posted on several university Instagram accounts. There is no information to suggest this is a credible threat to Virginia Tech.
VTPD immediately worked with the parent company of the social media platform and determined the information was posted from outside the United States. VTPD will continue to investigate the incident.
The details of the post are not being shared as they provide investigators with information that will aid in the investigation. VTPD is sharing that the post mentioned times this weekend. While we do not have information to say that the information in the post is credible, we remind our community to always stay aware of their surroundings and report concerns.
Community members are encouraged to contact VTPD by calling 911, or the non-emergency number at (540)382-4343, if they have additional information regarding this incident or if they observe suspicious activity.
