Cheri Warren has been named division director of human resources for the College of Engineering, effective Nov. 25.

She joined Virginia Tech in January as senior HR manager for the Pamplin College of Business, serving in that role through November.

She will report to both Ed Nelson, associate dean, administration, and chief of staff in the College of Engineering, and Curtis Mabry, assistant vice president of consulting and strategic services in the Division of Human Resources.

“Cheri is a skilled and experienced professional,” said Bryan Garey, vice president for human resources. “She brings experience leading and building teams and will elevate the operations of HR as she brings a strategic perspective that will serve the College of Engineering in achieving its ambitious vision under Dean [Julie] Ross.  We are pleased to welcome her to this new role.”

In her role at Pamplin, Warren assisted with the onboarding of a new dean to the college, administered the logistics for a complete college organizational review, and launched a new faculty and staff engagement process for recognition, among other accomplishments.

“The College of Engineering has seen tremendous growth in the number of faculty and staff as well as organizational changes within the last several years, including the addition of the Myers-Lawson School of Construction in 2022,” said Ross, the Paul and Dorothea Torgersen Dean of Engineering. “Looking forward, our 12 departments and schools will benefit greatly from Cheri's expertise in organizational change management and logistics, especially as we prepare to onboard new heads in several of those departments. Her experience with colleague engagement and recognition will also allow us to focus on fostering a stronger sense of community as she dives into this new and critical role at the college."

Prior to joining Virginia Tech, Warren served as human resources manager at Ozmo Holdings Inc., human resource manager at Lawrence Companies Inc., and deputy director of human resources at the Taubman Museum of Art.

She earned a bachelor’s from the University of South Florida. She also holds a Not-For-Profit Certificate in Accounting from the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants.
