At its June 6 meeting, the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors unanimously approved a resolution to name the new 300-person auditorium at the Virginia Tech Innovation Campus the Boeing Auditorium. The auditorium, located on the first floor of Innovation Campus Academic Building One, is the single largest convening space on the campus. The Innovation Campus is set to open in August 2024.

The Boeing Company is a foundational partner of the Virginia Tech Innovation Campus, investing $50 million in the campus in May 2021 to provide student scholarships, foster the recruitment of world-class faculty and researchers, and fund STEM pathway programs for underserved K-12 students looking to pursue a college degree and enter high-tech careers.

Boeing’s investment will support sustainability, diversity, and innovation as well as a tech talent pipeline in the fields of computer science and computer engineering.

“Virginia Tech is proud to have a 70-year history of partnership with The Boeing Company,” said Lance Collins, vice president and executive director of the Virginia Tech Innovation Campus. “Boeing’s generous commitment to the Innovation Campus will continue to strengthen Virginia Tech’s impact on the booming D.C. technology district. We look forward to continuing our work with them in the months and years ahead.”

“The Virginia Tech Innovation Campus is set to provide the most diverse graduate technology programs in the U.S., and our industry – and country – will benefit from what the graduates deliver,” said Marc Allen, chief strategy officer of The Boeing Company and senior vice president of strategy and corporate development. “Boeing is committed to providing opportunities to Virginia Tech students to be part of future innovations through our storied partnership with the university.”

The Innovation Campus held its Topping Out Celebration for Academic Building One this February at the construction site in the space designated as the future Boeing Auditorium. More than 275 community members, partners, and friends were in attendance. Academic Building One was designed by SmithGroup.

Boeing’s commitment to the Virginia Tech Innovation Campus has included the funding of a Boeing Graduate Scholars program that provides scholarships to Master of Engineering students studying computer science or computer engineering. The fall 2022 entering class included 10 Boeing Scholars.
