Richard Melvin Hodge, retired quarry mason for the Division of Campus Planning, Infrastructure, and Facilities, passed away on May 17.

Hodge was born on Dec. 12, 1961, in Virginia to Bonnie and Howard Robinson.

Hodge graduated from Narrows High School in 1981. He was a proud Green Wave alumnus.

He later joined Virginia Tech, serving as a quarry mason at the Hokie Stone quarry.

Hodge greatly enjoyed cheering on his favorite football teams: the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Virginia Tech Hokies. He also loved fishing and spending time with family and friends. One of Hodge’s most precious moments included his recent baptism.

Hodge is survived by his mother; wife, Malinda; sons Richard and Chris; daughter, Tiffanie; step-sons, Jerry Martin Jr. and Brian Sparks; brothers Steve and Mike; sisters Sherry Merrix, Ramona Morgan, and Secellia Carlton; and many grandchildren; extended family members; special friends; and three “furbabies,” Pickles, Moon Pie, and Macy.

He is preceded in death by his father.
