U.S. Navy Lt. j.g. Katie Loffert, a 2020 Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets alumna who earned her degree in biological sciences from the College of Science, was selected as the Hokie Hero for Saturday’s football game against Georgia Tech.

The Hokie Hero program honors corps alumni who are deployed. Recipients are highlighted by Bill Roth and Mike Burnop during their radio broadcast of Hokie football games, on the Corps of Cadets website, and in the Corps Review alumni magazine.

Loffert is deployed with the 5th Fleet on the USS Delbert D. Black as an operations intelligence officer supporting freedom of navigation, maritime security, and stability in the Middle East.

While in the corps, she participated in the Global Scholars program in 2019 and was a member of India Company.

Her husband, U.S. Army 1st Lt. Stephen Loffert, who is also a corps graduate, is serving as an Apache pilot stationed in Korea. He earned his degree in physics from the College of Science in 2020.
