The Virginia Tech Board of Visitors will hold its quarterly board meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 23, at 1:15 p.m. in the Maroon and Orange Room of the Virginia Tech Newport News Center (700 Tech Center Parkway, Suite 305) in Newport News, Virginia.

On Sunday, Aug. 21, an orientation session and retreat will be held in open session for all new and returning board members beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the Virginia Tech Hampton Roads Agricultural Research and Extension Center (1444 Diamond Springs Road) in Virginia Beach, Virginia. In addition to a tour of the facility, board members will receive information on and discuss issues affecting higher education and the current state of the university in the context of achieving strategic long-term university goals.

On Monday, Aug. 22, board members will travel to several locations and tour Virginia Tech facilities located in eastern Virginia. These locations include Virginia Tech’s Seafood Agricultural Research and Extension Center (102 S. King St.) in Hampton and the Virginia Tech Newport News Center (700 Tech Center Parkway, Suite 305) in Newport News, Virginia. These tours will take place between 9:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Later in the day, beginning at approximately 4:30 p.m., board members will tour the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (12000 Jefferson Ave.) in Newport News.

On Monday, Aug. 22 and Tuesday, Aug. 23, board committees will meet at the following times and locations:

  • The Academic, Research, and Student Affairs Committee will meet Monday in closed session beginning at 1:30 p.m. in the Maroon and Orange Room of the Virginia Tech Newport News Centerfollowed by open session.
  • The Buildings and Grounds Committee will meet Monday in open session beginning at 1:30 p.m. in the Hokie Stone Room of the Virginia Tech Newport News Center. The committee will then meet jointly with the Finance and Resource Management Committee in open session at 3:45 p.m. in the Hokie Stone Room.
  • The Compliance, Audit, and Risk Committee will meet Tuesday in closed session beginning at 7:30 a.m. in Pearl Ballroom Salon I at the Newport News Marriott at City Center followed by open session.
  • The Executive Committee will meet Monday in closed session beginning at 7:30 a.m. in Blue Point Room I at the Newport News Marriott at City Center (740 Town Center Drive).
  • The Finance and Resource Management Committee will meet on Monday in closed session beginning at 1:30 p.m. in the Conference Room of the Virginia Tech Newport News Center followed by open session.


Also on Tuesday, an information session for all board members will be held in open session beginning at 9:15 a.m. in the Maroon and Orange Room of the Virginia Tech Newport News Center. This session will be livestreamed; to view, go to the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors website.

In addition to facility tours and the retreat, board members will receive reports on student wellness, the campus master plan and the university strategic plan, and the Virginia Tech India Research and Educational Forum. They will also consider a resolution to adopt the 2022 Student Life Village Master Plan during the three-day meeting.
